Land Acknowledgement:
I, Tushar Tukaram Dalvi, the founder of Rangaai Theatre Company, a temporary resident of Toronto(Tkaronto), and a new immigrant from the Maratha clan in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, I would like to take this opportunity to express my respect to the original peoples of Turtle Island and their descendants. It is important to acknowledge that the land we have gathered on today is the traditional territory of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.
I also recognize the atrocities and suffering caused by colonizers, specifically in regard to the residential schools and the ongoing battle for indigenous rights. As a company, we encourage our audience to learn about indigenous histories and support indigenous businesses, artists, and people in any way possible. Additionally, we acknowledge the privilege we have to live and work on this stolen land, which is only possible because of the sacrifices made by the ancestors of these indigenous peoples.
In line with indigenous perspectives and ways of thinking, Rangaai Theatre Company promises to always be conscious of its connection with this land and the use of its resources. We will strive to implement the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle to the best of our abilities.
